Cairo International Book Fair
Having begun in 1969 as a venture to unite Arab people through knowledge and science, the Cairo International Book Fair has grown to become one of the country’s most important cultural events. During the 42 fairs held over the past 30 years the event has bought together people from the Arab world and from the rest of the world spreading culture through the diversity of different literature and art, and gives people a chance to speak to others and express and change their opinions and views.
The show is organised and run by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture and encompasses a wide range of sectors and activities including artistic and cultural as well as literary. The show
itself is held within the city’s Grand Museum, inside its main exhibition hall and houses almost 800 publishers and nearly 3 million books . During the show there will be activities and seminars held on a variety of topics, including Publishers Professional Activity and Certificate of recognition, in honour to individuals who have contributed to the cultural life of the country as well the Arab World.

There are a range of different people who take part in the fair from publishers and distributors, retail booksellers. They exhibit books that are produced by themselves or have distributed, as well as other related activities including graphic design and paper development. There are also a number of foreign ambassadors and companies exhibiting material and literature related to their culture. There are also a range of national and international public and private organisations displaying work and carrying out promotional activities.
