Hiring a car in Egypt
Car hire is widely available all over Egypt, with the majority of the most famous car hire names in the world having branches here. The good news is that petrol in Egypt is reasonably cheap, so even if the price of hire is on a par with other countries in the world, the overall cost will be a bit less.
The minimum age to hire a car is 25, whilst the driver must also have an international drivers licence. The cost of hiring a car for the day with a driver is often not much more 
than just hiring the car itself, something which is an attractive option considering the driving conditions on inner city roads.
Driving in Egypt
Driving in Egypt is not something which should be taken lightly if you intend on driving in the heavily built up areas, although if you intend on heading away from these areas to explore further afield then you will have a more peaceful and enjoyable experience.
In built up areas drivers can often seem in a rush and can often seem to have disrespect for others on the road. It is recommended, therefore, that if possible, you wait a couple of days and acclimatise with the general feel of the roads and become familiar with the general pattern of behaviour. Once in a car you should remain focussed on the road and not on observing any attractions and sights around you. There are often very few signs to inform you what the laws are so you should apply common sense and be very aware of other cars around you. Driving on motorways and in more remote areas is more comparable to western conditions and should be considered as a means of exploring the country.
